Changes made to schedule:
Today, I filmed the scenes of 'Phone Booth' and 'Vampires Kiss' at Uphill and my house respectively. Once again, this was scheduled later than I originally planned because of the low battery of the camera and weather issues. I decided to film both shots today because I had a limited time with the camera and I had nothing to do on this day, so was free all day.

Filming Diary Entry - Friday 29th November 2013
Today, I filmed the intertextual reference of the opening sequence for 'Billy Elliot'. For this intertextual reference, I was aiming to re-create the part from 0:42 onwards.
However, the location was changed for my music video. Instead of filming inside, I decided to film outside because of the height of the feeling from the floor in my bedroom. If I jumped up really high, I would bang my head!
So instead, I used my back garden as the location for the scene. I used a trampoline to jump up on and I wanted the shot to be the same/look similar to the one portrayed in this movie.

I had to make sure the shots included were similar or the same to what was included in 'Billy Elliot', so above, I constructed a medium close-up shot of the actor jumping up and down on the trampoline. As this was a static shot, there were no problems at all filming this shot. For editing, I will make this shot go in slow-motion as shown in the clip for 'Billy Elliot'. In this way, it adds similarity to 'Billy Elliot' and the intertextuality of the clip can be understood because of the recognisable opening sequence of the film enjoyed by millions of people worldwide.

The other shot that was included was the wide/long shot. Although this was a static shot, as the shot above, I found stuff difficult to film the shot. I wanted this shot to be perfect, so I made sure I did not get in the prop that I was jumping on, otherwise it would put off the performance, as in 'Billy Elliot' the prop wasn't seen. This took a while, but I finally got it in the end, after around 5 takes.
This was all of the shots filmed today. The next day was the last day of filming!
Filming Diary Entry - Wednesday 27th November 2013
Changes made to schedule:
Today, I filmed the footage for my music video at Uphill. The change made was the fact that it was scheduled for last Wednesday (20th November 2013) but unfortunately, the weather was very poor, with strong winds and heavy rain. I decided to film today because of the availability of an assistant and it was my day off college.
Filming:
The filming was all performance, so there was no strict rule to follow, e.g. there were no intertextual reference I had to enact. This footage is part of my lip-sync, so today's filming was vitally important.
The first shot I filmed was the aerial view/establishing and panning shot of Weston-super-Mare. I panned the shot, starting with a zoom in to the pier and slowly panning to the end of Worle. When I come to edit this footage, I will make the footage appear faster by adding in a 'Re-time' effect, which allows me to retime the footage, by making it faster or slower. This was done in effect, as the view is followed by the lyrics, '…I could watch you for a lifetime…' suggesting that I am referring the lyrics to the actual view before. I had no problems filming this shot, as I didn't need an assistant.
These next 2 shots were filmed on the tower which outlooks the whole of Weston and as afar as Glastonbury and Hinckley Point.
Here in these 2 shots, I lip-synced the verses/chorus from 2 different angles.
1) A standard mid-shot/panning shot.
2) A high-angle medium close-up shot.
In my editing, I am aiming to balance the lip-syncing with these 2 shots, in order to balance out the different visuals (You don't have to see the same shot for lip-syncing). I needed an assistant to film this shot for me, as it was a panning shot and not static! Once again for the editing, I need to balance out the static shot from the movement shots, so the viewers feel more interested and don't find it boring!
This shot was very random, as all it was was a static/long shot of me looking out at the view, with the view not seen. This could suggest that this can coincide with the opening lyrics (above) however, this is a reserve shot, so I might not include this shot at all.
Finally, I filmed a mid-shot of me just walking away from the camera, which will be placed right at the end of the clip to signal the end of the story (A cinema… and then walk away!) Another static shot, this was very easy to do and for this, I had my assistant to help me film this.
This day has been one of my favourite days of filming, as it was filmed outside and I had fun doing this!

Audience Feedback
On Tuesday, I started to edit all of the footage filmed together for my rough cut. I was given around an hour and a half to edit as much footage as I could in order to get feedback from my peers. Looking at my piece so far, they said:
Filming
Today I filmed, which is deemed to be the intro to my piece, myself putting on some sunglasses, which can be seen prominently on the green screen sections of the filming (See Friday 22nd November). I used a close-up to promote self-image of the artist. The reason for filming at nighttime is because of the brightness of lights present at night. The light is shown focused on me, showing that I'm the star of the show and the audience can get an idea of who I am.
Finally, on this day, I filmed a close-up of the movement of the hand, pointing to the beat of the song, wearing a white glove. The reason for this was because the 'white' is best noticed in dark conditions (here, I was filming at night) and with a black glove, it would look dull and not very visible at all. I found this out when first filming this scene when wearing a black glove. This technique appeared with poor results, so I swapped the colour of my glove for a brighter, more visible colour. This worked really well, as shown above.
On Tuesday, I started to edit all of the footage filmed together for my rough cut. I was given around an hour and a half to edit as much footage as I could in order to get feedback from my peers. Looking at my piece so far, they said:
- Cuts work well (the first section is very nice).
- Lip-syncs matched the lyrics of the song.
- Quirkiness works, very humorous.
- Needs a more clearer reference to 'Forrest Gump': Facial hair/getting older.
- Zoom in on the 'Cinema' bit or change the picture.
- Band name on 'Cinema'.

Filming Diary Entry - Monday 25th November 2013
Today, I filmed the intertextual reference of 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' for my music video.

I filmed some extra stuff, which features at the start of the intertextual reference and nearer to the start of the track. Here we see a mid-shot (left) of me pouring water into the glass and the same is shown in the other image, but as a point-of-view shot (right).
For this intertextual reference, it was important for me to recreate the scene accurately, where Dr Jekyll is seen holding the potion in his hand, looking in the mirror and downing the liquid (shown from 0:54 to 1:13).
However, I added a little twist to the segment; instead of turning into a villain, I added comical effect to the scene, where I transformed into a young girl. Also, I incorporated several newer shots to make this intertextual reference my own, but still look like the scene from 1931 film 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde'.
First of all, I attempted to recreate the medium close-up shot of Dr Jekyll looking at the glass. I found it easy to organise myself to film this shot because of the amount of stuff I needed to sort out. Overall, there was only one prop involved in the scene, which was the drink glass, so there was no hassle.
Here I have included a side-view/CU shot of the actor (me) looking in to the mirror. I have done this so it is seen from another persons perspective and that someone is watching me attempt to drink the potion. This was a static shot, which means that the camera was just stood in one position using the tripod. This was very easy to film because of this.
To make the particular scene look interesting, I reinacted the scene (above looking in the mirror) so the camera can focus me from a different angle. Here, we see a mid-shot of me looking in the mirror, whilst holding the glass ready to drink. When I edit this footage, I will include match-on-action, which will link the 2 images (shown above) together. By this, it will look effective.
Talking about the parody stage of the genre cycle, here we see the transformation of me into a different personality. As shown in 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' when the good Dr Jekyll turns in to the villainous Mr Hyde, I have incorporated this, but as a comical effect. Here, I turn into a person of a different gender and a different age. This comical effect should possibly make the viewer laugh and become a little more interested.

I filmed some extra stuff, which features at the start of the intertextual reference and nearer to the start of the track. Here we see a mid-shot (left) of me pouring water into the glass and the same is shown in the other image, but as a point-of-view shot (right).
Finally, similar to the shot (above right), I filmed a point-of-view shot of the actor looking at the glass and pouring the potion into the glass (here, the potion is food colouring). This shot pans, so I needed an assistant with me to film this particular shot. It was done pretty quick, taking only 2 takes.

Filming Diary Entry - Saturday 23rd November 2013
Today, as scheduled on my shoot list, I filmed the 'Forrest Gump' scene of me running along a field. It was easy, as there was only 1 shot to film, but however, it took ages to film it because I wanted to get it just right. As this shot was scheduled to be a dolly shot, I needed an assistant to help me track my movement.
However, this did not go to plan. Here is more:
Here is a mid-shot of me, showing me running across the field towards the camera. There was only 1 shot to film, therefore, I could edit the footage in the places I wanted them in my music video.
Changes to shot:
This shot was supposed to be a dolly shot, but we had no specialised equipment to film this dolly shot, so it was down to just zooming out. As I ran towards the camera, the assistant was intended to slowly zoom out the focus of the camera, so the same kind of shot (mid-shot) was still attained. This took several cuts to film, but in the end, we got the focus just right on the character.
Camera problems:
The whole footage of the scene was filmed to the point where I thought it was professional enough to include in my music video. However, as we finished filming, the cam-corder was on low battery. This instance, I had to wait until Monday the 25th to charge the battery up to continue filming, so therefore Sunday the 24th, we did no filming, interrupting my shooting schedule even more.

Filming Diary Entry - Friday 22nd November 2013
Today was one of the busiest days of filming because I filmed so much stuff. The footage filmed on this day contributes to about 35% of the whole music video, so it was well worth the time filming in college.
First of all, I filmed all of the green screen stuff in S108; from close-ups to mid-shots, you name it! This was scheduled to be filmed the day before, but as the studio was booked on that day, I was to unable to film.
Above is an example of a mid-shot of the artist of which was filmed on the green screen. Here we can see a convention of the 'dance-pop' genre, which is the bright colour clothing I'm wearing. The artist (me) is also seen dancing to the beat of the song whilst lip-syncing, which is done to identify the genre of music, as dance-pop is played in nightclub, which involves dancing and possibly singing to several dance classics.
Here we see a close-up of the artist. The reason for incorporating close-up's with the mid-shot's above is to vary the different shots used in front of the green screen and to make this look a lot more exciting for viewers. This shot is shown a lot of times, therefore presenting a 'star image' of the artist. This is very important in the pop music genre, so the audience can figure out who they are through visuals and therefore recognise them a lot easier in future music videos.

To the left and right of the video, I've included shots of lights being turned on. This is then followed by a mid-shot of me dancing in front of the green screen. I've done this to show that I (the artist) is the star of the show and all the light is on me. Have you heard of the spotlight used in catwalks and theatrical plays? It is similar to this. This shot is shown at the start when the beat of the song kicks in with the melody. Normally in theatrical plays, the spotlight turns on when the play actually starts and the audience are all sat in their starts. In this case, when this is shown, the exciting stuff kicks in (the music and the editing skills).
At around 2:30pm on this date, I met up with 2 of the actors of the music video to film the 'Titanic' scene, by the names of Bobby Wheeler and Sophie Newton. This was indeed scheduled to be filmed today, which means I am right on schedule on this day.
Here (above) is the MCU/mid-shot of the actors lip-syncing to the chorus of the song. I found this very easy because I had the chance to film other people, instead of myself all of the time. I had the chance to make this shot look as perfect as possible, as in the angle of the shot and the type of shot it is. There were no difficulties when filming this shot above.

Changes made to schedule:
Due to the unavailability on a spare room for the green screen, I was unable to film the green screen shots of the artist. This will now be filmed on Friday 22nd November, where there is a spare room available, so I can film this footage.
No filming was done today. :'(

Filming Diary Entry - Wednesday 20th November 2013
Changes Made to Schedule:
Due to the harsh weather in the morning and the availability of the filmed, I was unable to film the camera shots at Uphill. Instead, I filmed some footage in Hans Price Academy field, which I scheduled to happen on Saturday.
Above is a screenshot of the close-up/panning shot of my face (the artist) of which I filmed today. I filmed this shot today because it wasn't of a far location and it was easy to film.
This point-of-view shot (above) is part of an intertextual reference used for 'Forrest Gump' which I also filmed in Hans Price Academy field. Once again, it was of a near location and it was very easy to film with no difficulties.

Another piece of footage also filmed on this day is this one (above 2 pictures) a medium close-up of the artist lip-syncing. The lyrics to 'Cinema' filmed here: 'Action, Thriller…' is heard during these visuals of me holding up 2 DVD's of the same genre as the lyrics states. This is an aspect of Andrew Goodwin's theory of music video, where the lyrics match the visuals of the song.

Finally, I filmed another intertextual reference of the heel-tapping of red shoes from the film 'Wizard of Oz' (1939). I incorporated a similar shot from 'The Wizard of Oz' so the audience can understand I got the inspiration of the shots from the film itself. This was very easy to do and I didn't encounter any difficulties at all.

Filming Diary Entry - Tuesday 19th November 2013
Today was the first day of filming my music video. I filmed the extreme close-up of the artist's mouth (me).
It took me around half an hour to get the close-up shot just right, but I managed to get the shot just where I wanted it. This was done in just one shot and I lip-synced the whole duration of the song. This was done because throughout the whole video is the same shot of the mouth of the artist and I believe that one shot would be easier to edit when I come to putting the music video piece together.

Planning Task 4 and 5 - Storyboard and Animatic
Storyboard:
For my music video, there are 54 different visuals, which corresponds to 131 cuts for 'Cinema'. Here is my storyboard: This is how I hope my music video will pan out -
Animatic:
This animatic of my music video for 'Cinema' shows even closely how I hope it will pan out. The pictures correspond to the shots I will film for my piece next week.

Planning Task 3 - Location Scout
Below is a mood board of the 'location scout' which I desire to use in the construction for my music video. One of the main locations of my music video will be the green screen at Weston College's University Campus, as it is used in many pop videos (my genre for this music video) such as 'Little Mix - Wings' and 'Beyonce - Countdown'. Here it is:
Planning Task 2 - Costume/Props/Schedule (TBF)
When talking about the genre of my music video and the song(pop), it is vitally important to consider the clothing. The music video and the song is aimed at 14-19 year old teenagers, who enjoy going to parties and drinking and spending times with their friends. The song is of a 'Dance-pop' genre, which is proven to be a big hit in this decade of popular music and a big-name music genre in nightclubs around the UK and worldwide.
A typical party-goer would dress to impress: Girls (dresses and high heels) and Boys (chinos and a T-shirt/shirt), so for the majority of my music video, I will wear casual going-out clothing, which relates to my audience and is a particular convention of the pop music genre. Another aspect is colorful clothing, which is present in several dance-pop music video, take for example, LMFAO's music videos, with their bright, powerful clothing, as well as their dance-pop style of music which every teenager enjoys.
On an additional note to all of this, my music video for 'Cinema' will feature around 5/6 intertextual references of different films, so therefore, the clothing and props used must match up to the intertextual references shown. Here are some clothing I will use for my music video and how they are similar to a particular intertextual reference.
The Wizard of Oz, '1939'.

Billy Elliot, '2000'.
Forrest Gump, '1994'.

Phone Booth, '2003'.
